Yea, my video card ate it 2 nights ago. I can't really do much programming or anything because I can't even load up UDK. A new card is in the mail, but won't show up till next week.

What's not making me happy is that there is a good chance that updating my Nvidia drivers may have been what killed my card. It may have been coincidental, but I updated my drivers the day before, and after doing some searching, I'm not the only one that has had some critical stability problems after updating to drivers that support the 600 series cards.

For now I'm discovering how quaint life was without video acceleration(pre 2001)...

Reminds me of when my 8000 series died years ago, it all happened so suddendly and then my monitor was filled with pink and green and artifacts and tearing, and then nothing

condolences :(

That said, I'm still on 295.73, didnt even notice there was an update available

...the video card is sitting in a warehouse less than 10 minutes away, but I can't just go pick it up because the customer center isn't open on weekends, and they don't allow direct pickups unless a delivery has been attempted...

I going to try baking my current video card once the replacement comes. I would be cool if it worked afterwards; maybe I'll use it as a dedicated PhysX card or something(or give it to a friend).

If I'm not mistaken, I think the 295 drivers were the first to support the 600 series. Most everyone that's been having issues with the new drivers has had a card that's 400 series or older. If you do upgrade your drivers soon, the test to do is play a youtube video. Almost everyone that's had issues immediately gets a pink screen when watching youtube videos.

Huray, the new video card is here and is working without issue. I foresee some 4th of July programming(I'd start now, but I think it's time to play some games with shiny new graphics). I'm excited to see UDK with DX11; hopefully it will be cool.

A GTX 460.

I couldn't justify grabbing too good a card; I'm holding out to get something like a 690 once I have the cash. For now, the 460 was the best bang for the buck I could find that also was a bit of an upgrade from my previous card(a 9800GTX).

yeah, buying a brand new gfx is tempting, but its a "waste" of money.

alot of ppl are selling their used gfx-cards cheap, and they are still very up to date/new. So you can make a great bargain on sites like ebay.

A GTX 460 is rather decent for a place holder in any case. Should allow you to play pretty much any modern game as long as you don't max the settings on the more intensive ones.

Yea, that was the idea. I already am able to crank the setting quite a bit more from my previous card, and have just started fooling around with UDK DX11 features. Haven't tried BF3 yet; maybe I'll be able to pull more than 720p @ 30fps(that was awful).
