I'm reading papers about weapon patterns but I'm not sure how to come up with stuff as efficient as the weaponry in the updates (happy to see some news btw), what is supposed to vary. Is creating new roles for new weapons a viable thing?

edit: I watched the old udk videos

Just to be clear, the weapons in the last video are stock UE4 weapons. Our own core weapons will be implemented later.

WIP of a chaingun. Started it mostly to practice some new techniques but would give it to you if you want it later

I like it, and that would be an awesome gift.

Glad you like it. Talked to Greth and he wanted some minor changes and I added some more details.

Low- and highpoly mesh.
Low poly has around 7k polys which feels actually a bit less for a UE4 game but well. :/

Heh, 7k is low poly. Think that's plenty fine.

I'd recommend adding some edge loops to the low poly where you have that grill thing in the small cylinder on the side, if you haven't already. Will probably get a shitty bake otherwise. Although lets be honest you'll probably have to tinker with your low poly a lot regardless, that's just how baking goes.

Does it not have handles at all btw? ...

If you check closely there's a handle at the top of the body.
I don't reckon you'd want ingame hands anyway. So no real need for a handle that's not used.

Yep, no real need or desire for ergonomics.
