As for the icarus thing, don't think of it as a cap, it is just a gentler way to enforce a vertical boundary. An OOB ceiling is essentially a hard cap on altitude, you'd just be replacing that with a mechanic that requires less suspension of disbelief.

No plans for ceiling caps though. I don't know why one would be needed in the first place. If someone wants to go to the moon, why stop them? Also that was some Orwellian doublespeak type talk.

As for planetoids, halos, and other interesting shaped maps, they don't have to be that big. Each shape will have pros and cons. I think hollow sphere or halo maps will be well suited to relatively small landscapes.

It would be kind of cool if you could break gravity and float off into space like Sandra Bullock..

Yea, that's what I'm hoping for. I'd love for orbits and escape velocity to be a potential thing for maps.

Do you think it would add anything to the gameplay or just end up being a gimmick? Sounds like a lot of work for something that probably won't happen that often.

It'll be a side effect of gravity volumes, so not particularly a lot of work(considering I want gravity volumes no matter what).
